Getting started

How you install AppSignal depends on the language your application is written in. Every language has its own installation instructions, so start with your language in the languages section and follow the steps there. The two guides below cover the rest: adding your first application to AppSignal, and configuring it once it reports data.

Add your first application

Install AppSignal, send your first data, and see your application appear on AppSignal.com.

Configure your application

Add and change configuration options, per environment, in a config file or environment variables.

Application concepts

How applications, environments, and namespaces relate to each other.

How configuration works

The four options every application needs, and where each integration loads them from.

Languages

Everything you need to know when integrating AppSignal with your application’s programming language.

Native integrations

AppSignal’s own SDKs with the deepest feature coverage.

Via OpenTelemetry

AppSignal supports additional languages through OpenTelemetry. Any tool or service that exports OpenTelemetry data, including traces, metrics, and logs, can send it to AppSignal.

Features

What AppSignal does once your application reports data.

Errors

Capture exceptions, group them into issues, and debug them with full trace context.

Performance

Trace requests, jobs, and scripts to find where they spend time and slow down.

Anomaly detection

Trigger notifications when a metric goes over or under a threshold you set.

Metrics and dashboards

Track custom metrics and build dashboards that relate them to errors and response times.

Logs

Store, view, and query your application’s logs, and extract metrics from them.

Workflow

Send incidents and alerts to Slack, GitHub, Jira, PagerDuty, and the rest of your stack.

Alerting

Choose the right alerting system and route alerts to the right people, without the noise.
Host monitoring, uptime monitoring, and process monitoring are covered on the features overview.
