Linear is an issue tracker built around cycles, with built-in workflows for planning and triage. Connecting it to AppSignal lets you turn an error incident into a Linear issue. Linear is a personal integration: each person with access to an app who wants to use this feature has to complete these steps themselves.

Adding Linear to your app

Linear works with OAuth, so you don’t need to manually enter any API tokens.
  1. Open the Linear integration screen for the app you want to link, and select Add new Linear integration.
  2. Linear asks you to authorize AppSignal, which requests read access to your workspace and permission to create issues in it. Select Authorize.
  3. You return to AppSignal with your Linear account linked. In the table of Linear apps, choose the Linear team you want to use, then select Link Linear app.
AppSignal confirms which Linear organization and team the app is linked to. From that screen you can also select Unlink Linear from this app at any time.

Create Linear issues for incidents

Once Linear is linked, you can create a Linear issue for an error incident:
  1. Open the error incident’s details screen.
  2. In the Actions panel, select Send to Linear.

Unlinking and revoking access

Disconnecting Linear takes three steps, because unlinking one side does not clear the other. Revoking AppSignal in Linear leaves your AppSignal personal integration in place, and a leftover integration stops a fresh connection from working.
  1. On the app’s Linear integration screen in AppSignal, select Unlink Linear from this app.
  2. In your AppSignal personal settings, open Integrations and select Remove for the Linear integration.
  3. In Linear, open Settings → Applications and revoke AppSignal.
Complete all three before connecting Linear again, so the setup starts from scratch. If anything went wrong while validating the integration you will be prompted with the error message. Feel free to contact us if you experience any problems while setting up this integration.
