Upgrading from AppSignal for Ruby 4.x to 5.x requires no changes to your application. Update the gem and your app reports data in the same way as it did with 4.x.

Upgrade to the latest 5.x series

In the app’s Gemfile, remove or update any version lock on the appsignal gem, and run bundle update appsignal in a terminal in the same directory as the Gemfile.

Collector mode

AppSignal for Ruby 5.x adds collector mode, which sends data to an AppSignal collector using OpenTelemetry. Collector mode is optional: the gem only uses it when you set the collector_endpoint option. To move your app to collector mode after upgrading, follow migrating to collector mode.
