# Upgrading the Standalone AppSignal Agent

> Update the standalone AppSignal agent, installed as a Linux package or a Docker image, to get updates, bug, and security fixes.

New releases include updates, bug and security fixes, so keep AppSignal up to date. Follow the steps for how you installed the agent.

## Linux package

To update the agent, upgrade the package:

* On Debian and Ubuntu, run `apt-get update`, then `apt-get install --only-upgrade appsignal-agent`.
* On Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS, run `yum update appsignal-agent`.

The package restarts the agent for you.

## Docker image

To update, pull the latest image with `docker pull appsignal/agent` and recreate the container. Restarting the container does not pull a new image. If you pin a version tag, change it to the new one.
