# Upgrading AppSignal for Python

> Update the appsignal package to get updates, bug, and security fixes.

New releases include updates, bug and security fixes, so keep AppSignal up to date. To update, run `pip install --upgrade appsignal`, change the version in `requirements.txt` if you pin one, and redeploy.

If you send data [through a collector](https://docs.appsignal.com/python/configuration/collector.md), keep it up to date too. AppSignal updates the hosted collector for you. If you run your own collector, follow the upgrade steps for the [Linux package](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#linux-package) or the [Docker image](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#docker-image).
