# Upgrading AppSignal for PHP

> Update the appsignal/appsignal-php package and the collector it sends data through to get updates, bug, and security fixes.

New releases include updates, bug and security fixes, so keep AppSignal up to date.

## Update the package

Run `composer update appsignal/appsignal-php` and redeploy.

## Update the collector

AppSignal for PHP sends its data through the collector, which gets its own fixes. If you use the hosted collector, AppSignal updates it for you. If you run your own collector, follow the upgrade steps for the [Linux package](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#linux-package) or the [Docker image](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#docker-image).
