# Upgrading OpenTelemetry for Go

> Update the AppSignal collector and the OpenTelemetry Go modules to get updates, bug, and security fixes.

New releases include updates, bug and security fixes, so keep AppSignal up to date.

## Update the collector

Go apps send their data through the AppSignal collector, which gets its own fixes. If you use the hosted collector, AppSignal updates it for you. If you run your own collector, follow the upgrade steps for the [Linux package](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#linux-package) or the [Docker image](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/installation/upgrading.md#docker-image).

## Update the OpenTelemetry packages

Run `go get -u` for the `go.opentelemetry.io` modules in your `go.mod`, then `go mod tidy`, and redeploy.
