# Upgrading the AppSignal Collector

> Update a self-hosted AppSignal Collector, installed as a Linux package or a Docker image, to get updates, bug, and security fixes.

New releases include updates, bug and security fixes, so keep AppSignal up to date. AppSignal updates the [hosted collector](https://docs.appsignal.com/collector/hosted-vs-self-hosted.md#hosted-collector) for you. If you run your own collector, follow the steps for how you installed it.

## Linux package

To update the collector, upgrade the package and restart it:

* On Debian and Ubuntu, run `apt-get update`, then `apt-get install --only-upgrade appsignal-collector`.
* On Red Hat Enterprise Linux, run `dnf upgrade appsignal-collector`.

Then run `systemctl restart appsignal-collector`.

## Docker image

To update, pull the latest image with `docker pull appsignal/collector` and recreate the container. Restarting the container does not pull a new image. If you pin a version tag, change it to the new one.
